Today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, there was signed the agreement between the Vologda region and Akvaprodukt to implement the project in fish farming industry. The document was endorsed by the Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov and the Board Chairman of the Group of Companies “Vologodskiye lesopromyshlenniki”, Akvaprodukt founder Alexander Churkin.
The investor plans to create a fish farm in the Vologda region with a capacity of about 2.5 thousand tons per year to farm salmon in recirculating aquaculture system. Now they are looking for a site, where the project will be implemented.
“The investment volume will amount to almost 1.7 billion rubles, it is planned to create more than 20 new jobs, and the annual sales volume of chilled gutted fish will be about 1,746 tons. We expect that the construction will start at the beginning of this year. The site, where the company will be located, is practically defined. It’s near Vologda. The object commissioning is planned at the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020,” Akvaprodukt founder Alexander Churkin said and stressed that the project is genuinely unique, having no analogues in Russia. In total there are three similar manufactures in the world - two in Poland and one in Denmark.
The Vologda Region Government and Development Corporation will give Akvaprodukt all the necessary support. In particular, the agreement involves that the regional authorities are to give the investor state support, including reimbursement of some costs to acquire equipment and fish seed, to construct, reconstruct and modernize the facilities for fish farming and fishery products manufacturing, as well as to pay interests on loans for aquaculture development and commercial sturgeon breeding.
In recent years, the Vologda region has been making a serious effort to develop fish farming. In particular, the regional program “Development of the agro-industrial complex and the consumer market of the Vologda region for 2013-2020” has been developed in the region, within the framework of which there is the subprogram “Development of fish farming in the Vologda region for 2014-2020”.
Within the framework of the program, there have been foreseen 29.3 million rubles of budget allocations for the support of fish farming in 2018. The same amount will be appropriated for the industry development in the next five years.
For today in the region, there are four companies that successfully operate in this sphere, including one of the Russian market leaders – fish trade company Diana, engaged in farming fish of sturgeon and carp breeds, as well as production of black caviar. In total, the Vologda enterprises have bred a little more than 100 tons of fish last year.
“It's nice that the first agreement, we sign at the forum, is the agreement with our Vologda company. All about the aquaculture development and commercial fish production is a strategic priority for us. We will definitely support such projects. The region sets a task to increase fish production in the next three years 7-10 times - from the current 100 tons to 700-1000 tons,” Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov said. “The agreement signed today with Akvaprodukt will facilitate this task achievement. The new investment project realization will provide the Vologda region people with high-quality fish products, increase the salmon production in the region, increase the food security, create new jobs, and increase tax revenues to the regional budget.”
